Armed robbers attack Deputy Education Minister; 5 injured

Five persons have sustained various degrees of gunshot wounds after Deputy Minister of Education, Hon. Dr. Osei Adutum and others were attacked on Sarikyikura on the Tamale Buipe highway.

Police in a statement sighted by MyNewsGh.com disclosed that the injured persons are currently at the Tamale Teaching Hospital responding to treatment while a hunt has been launched for the suspected robbers numbering 7.

According to DSP Mohammed Yusif Tanko, Northern Regional Police Public Relations Officer (PRO), the robbers also shot into the vehicle of the Deputy Minister for Education who was traveling from Bolga to Kumasi but he escaped unhurt.

The incident happened on July 22, 2019 at about 5:30pm and the police highway patrol team was called in but the suspects managed to escape into the bushes as soon as they saw police arrive. .

According to the victims, the suspects numbered about seven (7) all dressed in military like uniforms.

“They fired indiscriminately at a cargo truck travelling from Buipe market to Damango with the passengers on board injuring five (5) person in the process. Victims are receiving treatment at Tamale Teaching hospital.

Police in the region is conducting serious investigation into the incident and therefore calling on the public to assist with the information that can lead to the arrest of the perpetrators. Whoever has any information that could lead to the identification or arrest of the suspects should contact the police for necessary action”, DSP Yusif Tanko revealed.
