Brigadier-General Frank Tei has taken over as the new General Officer Commanding the Northern Command, officially replacing Major-General Matthew Essien.

The commandant of the Ghana Armed Forces Command and Staff College in Accra, Maj. Gen. Matthew Essien, has been elevated to the position.

During a handover ceremony at the Northern Command in Tamale, Maj. Gen. Matthew Essien, the outgoing General Officer Commanding, stated that over the past few years, they have been focused on achieving their goals of creating a safe and peaceful environment for Ghana’s socioeconomic development. The goal has been threatened by a number of challenges, including logistical difficulties, a lack of personnel, and extreme weather.

He stated that, among other things, they have successfully conducted drills, maintained deployments along the borders, and effectively resolved chieftaincy issues.

Maj. Gen. Matthew Essien expressed gratitude to the Eagle fraternity for their unwavering commitment to achieving their predetermined objectives.

He exhorted them to keep building a more robust and flexible force that is prepared to fend off new challenges and defend the nation’s deeply held democracy.
