Pay down WAPCo debt to avert “Dumsor,” a minority advises the government.

Following ECG’s payment default, WAPCo notified the guarantor that, should the minimum anticipated payment of $8.31 million not be received, they will terminate gas transportation services on October 17, 2023.

GNPC paid $2,000,000 toward the total amount of outstanding invoices, which now stand at US$17.13 million. Despite efforts to encourage ECG to make the necessary payments, these endeavors have proven fruitless. Consequently, WAPCo curtailed the gas flow from the Western Region to Tema, resulting in a restricted gas supply to the Tema area and a 550MW power supply gap during peak hours.
