VIDEO: I Assaulted Her Because She Didn’t Look Like A Journalist

News emerged last Friday that a journalist with Adom FM, Ohemaa Sakyiwaa Ahwenepa was assaulted by popular New Patriotic Party supporter Hajia Fati at the Party’s headquarters.

The radio presenter was allegedly punched on the lips by Hajia Fati after the former tried taking pictures of her.

Hajia Fati has addressed this allegation in an exclusive interview with ATV’s Nana Tuffour Asare saying, Ohemaa Sakyiwaa didn’t look like a journalist, and neither did she conduct herself as one that is why she assaulted her. She said, “She was dressed like one of my mothers who sell in the market, like she sells onions. I thought she was one of the women who accompanied Sammy Crabbe. She didn’t ask my permission before taking my picture, even if I were in a crowd, she could have asked before taking shots of me”.

The NPP stalwart added that, “She will always be assaulted if she’s continually sent out to report as a journalist because she does not know the ethics of the job. She needs to be trained properly as a journalist”.

Hajia Fati however apologised to all journalists saying, she did not assault a journalist because she will not knowingly assault a journalist who appears as a journalist.

Meanwhile the Association of Women in Media (ASWIM), has reacted to the assault on its member. In a statement signed by the Interim President of ASWIM, Mrs Mavis Kitcher, the association said, “We unequivocally condemn the assault on Ms Sakyiwaa while she was performing her duty as a journalist and call on the police to investigate and take immediate action on the matter to stop the maltreatment and harassment of reporters in their line of duty”
