TWO STRONG ROAD CONTRACTORS DISPATCHED TO KOFORIDUA TO FIX ROADS AFTER DEMO THREAT

Flyfmghana.com has gathered that two vibrant road construction companies have been dispatch to Koforidua, the Eastern Regional capital to fix deplorable roads in both New Juaben North and South Municipalities.

It follows notification by a group calling itself Koforidua Development Advocates to embark on demonstration in second week of June.

Sources say the contractors were awarded contract for asphalting of Koforidua town roads last year but funds for the project was not forthcoming from government.

Eastern regional Minister Seth Kwame Acheampong has since last week intensified lobbying of the department of Urban roads through the Chief Director at the Ministry of Roads and Highways to bring the contractors back on the road.

One of the two construction companies has quickly mobilized his equipment to report in Koforidua Monday May 22,2023.

Meanwhile, the Municipal Chief Executive for New Juaben South Ike Appaw Gyasi on Sunday posted on New Juaben Nkosuo Watsapp platform that, “I’ve been following all the concerns legitimately raised by our people with regards to the poor road network situation we have in our Municipality. Let me state here and now that I fully associate myself to all what our able MP said. I just want to add that, I have never slept on my work as your MCE”

He added ” Indeed, if anybody goes to all the road agencies ie. Urban, Feeder roads and Highways, the person will be told how I’ve been pestering them on the issues of New Juaben South roads. Our MP has been doing same. We have been told countless number of times that, we’ll be taken care of. I can understand all our frustrations but let’s bear with our government as we push hard to get our roads done”.

The MCE concluded that ” The good news is that, one of the Asphalted company just called to assure me that, starting this week, they’ll come and begin some works on our roads for us. I’m sure, when they start, the good people will be calmed as we look forward to more roads to be done in our municipality. Thanks for your patience. The MP, Constituency Chairman and my good self will keep pushing till all our roads are done”.

Meaning the group organizing the demonstration has said the deplorable state of roads in the regional capital is appalling .

“Town roads in the Regional capital have been riddled with potholes while many suburb communities have been left with deplorable untarred roads affecting road transportation. The onset of the rainfall season will worsen the situation and leave many commuters stranded”

Participants of the demonstration being spearheaded by the youth to take place in June will include taxi and Trotro drivers, Pastors, Lecturers, Teachers ,Nurses ,traders ,chiefs among others.

Lead Convener Komla Agbodo Godsway wondered why the Regional capital have been left in such a mess whereas areas such as Kibi, Atiwa, Okere ,etc are seeing facelift in road infrastructure.
