NPP MPs involved in UK visa fraud

The British High Commission has revealed that four MPs are allegedly perpetrating visa fraud using their diplomatic passports – A statement from the commission to Ghana’s Speaker of Parliament says the MPs used their position and diplomatic passports to aid people travel to the UK – Three of the MPs are NPP and one is NDC Three legislators in Ghana’s parliament and a former lawmaker have been fingered by the UK High Commission in Ghana for indulging in visa fraud. According to a statement signed by the Jon Benjamin, British High Commissioner to Ghana the MPs used their diplomatic passports to apply for visas for persons travelling to the UK and they never returned.
The letter cited Richard Acheampong, MP for Bia East in the Western Region, Joseph Benhazin Dahah, MP for Asutifi North in the Brong Ahafo region, Johnson Kwaku Adu, MP for Ahafo Ano South West, in the Ashanti Region and George Boakye, former MP for Asunafo South in the Brong Ahafo region for engaging in the fraudulent act. “The British High Commission considers the actions completely unacceptable. In some cases these behaviours may arguably be criminal in nature,” the British High Commission noted. READ ALSO: Men who raided our house were not from National Security – Nii Lante Vanderpuiye’s wife “We are also circulating this letter widely to other Diplomatic Missions which issue visas in Ghana in the expectation that some of them will consider similar action to ourselves against the above-named individuals,” Jon Benjamin’s to the Speaker of Parliament Mike Oquaye said. Meanwhile the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey has indicated that the diplomatic passports of the sitting MPs shall be withdrawn.
