NDC MP’s Toyota vehicle confiscated

A National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament (MP) has had his vehicle seized by members of the Government’s asset retrieval task force over the week.His driver was using the vehicle over the weekend, at the time it was seized.
NDC Communication Secretary for the Trobu constituency also had his vehicle seized.NDC Member of Parliament for Sekyere Affram Plains, Hon Alex Adomako Mensah, had his vehicle seized by the government’s asset retrieval task force in Achimota, Accra on Saturday, February 18th while the legislator’s driver was operating the vehicle.
“They asked him to show the papers and he said he had been sent by his boss. The other two were dropped and the driver started struggling with the taskforce until a police patrol team came in to save the driver.”
“The car was taken to the Tesano police station, seized …and parked there. … I went there and there was no one to be found.”
The Skyere Affram Plains legislator stated that he would report the incident to parliament’s leadership.
In a related incident, the opposition NDC’s Communication Secretary for the Trobu constituency, Mr Fame Derek Djisam, also had his vehicle – a 2012 registered 2008 model Toyota Tundra – seized when fifteen police officers in six police patrol vehicles stormed his home.
Speaking to Emefa Apawu on Class91.3FM’s 505 news program, Mr. Djisam said although he pleaded with the officers to afford him the time to produce the documentation covering his ownership of the vehicle, the officers insisted on towing away vehicle.
“It’s complete madness, I mean it’s complete madness…Is privately owned, I bought it from an expatriate”
He went on to say that the vehicle was “…privately owned, I bought it from an expatriate”.
Mr. Djisam said he was in contact with his lawyer in order to plot out how his going to take legal action against the officers involved in the seizing of his vehicle. These are only the most recent cases in a series of instants of car seizures by members of the asset retrieval task force on members of the National Democratic Party.
