President Akufo-Addo exhorts athletes to aim for excellence during the opening ceremony of the African Games.

The opening ceremony, held at the University of Ghana Stadium in Accra today, was a spectacle attended by diplomats, sportspeople, celebrities, and musicians.

The games, which will take place in two cities, Accra and Cape Coast, from March 23 to March 23, 2024, will feature around 3,000 athletes from 48 countries. Cape Verde was the only one of the 49 participating countries not to be present at the athletes’ march.

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo utilized sports to showcase Africa’s rich diversity and underlined the need for unity when officially opening the Games.

He emphasized the importance of sports in bringing the continent together while urging the athletes to pursue greatness. “Remember that you inspire numerous people throughout the continent with your efforts as you compete in the games in the upcoming days. Aim for greatness, test your boundaries, and highlight the enormous talent that exists in Africa, he advised.

Mustapha Ussif, the Minister of Youth and Sports, gave attendees the assurance that Ghana will present a tournament that will be remembered, bolstered by cutting-edge athletic facilities.

After talks, there was a mesmerizing light and fireworks show, traditional dance displays, and performances by well-known African singers, including Shatta Wale, King Promise, and Kamo Mphel, honoring Ghana’s rich cultural legacy.
