The strategy of fear and intimidation won’t work – Frefre chides Mahama

The strategy of fear and intimidation won’t work – Frefre chides Mahama

Nana Poku Frefre, a National Youth Organiser hopeful of the ruling New Patriotic Party, has condemned the “do-or-die” comments made by the former President, John Mahama.

The leader of the FrefreDom Movement has described the comments as most unfortunate and said it could be the root of political violence in the country.

During an interview on Akina Fm as part of his ‘Thank You’ tour, John Mahama reiterated his suspicion on Tuesday, September 7, that; “we were clearly robbed, but we accepted the verdict for the sake of peace.”
“But I want to state here that the next elections would be won or lost at the polling station. So at the polling station, it will be do or die. I am not saying all die be die. I’m saying it will be ‘do or die’ because the right thing must be done,” he told Techiman-based Akina FM.

His comments have since drawn widespread condemnation by members of the ruling NPP government and a cross section of the public with a call on him to apologise or retract the statements.
However, members of NDC including the former President himself have reacted that it was a mere idiomatic expression which shouldn’t be misinterpreted.

Reacting to the issue on his Facebook wall, Nana Poku Frefre said that, the youth of this country will not allow the former president to plunge the country into chaos.

“The former President clearly knows what he’s up to, and we won’t give him the chance. Because he knows very well that, as a statesman of his stature, such an unfortunate statement from him will serve as a harbinger of more unfortunate statements based on which some rogue elements in society may take advantage and cause mayhem.”

“It is in this light that we strongly expose and condemn his strategy, and go further to caution the NDC that, we the youth of this country and the NPP would deal with any rogue who plans to plunge our beautiful country into chaos.”

Below is the full statement:

Our immediate past President, John Mahama has issued a strong warning to Ghanaians that, the 2024 Elections would be a “do or die” affair for the NDC, and as well-meaning youth of this country, it is just appropriate and right that we condemn this unfortunate statement.

This is indeed most unfortunate and for that matter, could be the root of political violence in the country, if not condemned. We therefore register our revulsion and aversion to these unfortunate comments. To the ex-President, it’s either he’s declared winner in 2024 or he plunges the country into chaos, hence the beating of war-drums and usage of fear to have his way back to power.

However, we are urging the teeming youth of the NPP and the country to remain bold, courageous, and supportive to the President, H.E Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and his team, and not budge to any form of intimidation from ex-president Mahama and his NDC. We are peace-loving and calm people. But we do understand this violent-language of the NDC, and will not hesitate to face them boot-for-boot should they try to resort to intimidation and violence. We are determined and ever ready to preserve and safeguard the peace and tranquility we enjoy in this country. Therefore, any rogue that will attempt to visit mayhem on innocent Ghanaians would be dealt with accordingly.

The former President clearly knows what he’s up to, and we won’t give him the chance. Because he knows very well that, as a statesman of his stature, such an unfortunate statement from him can serve as a harbinger of more unfortunate statements based on which some rogue elements in society may take advantage of and cause mayhem.

It is in this light that we strongly expose and condemn his strategy, and go further to caution the NDC that, we the youth of this country and the NPP would deal with any rogue who plans to plunge our beautiful country into chaos. We in the NPP are breaking the 8, in and with, peace. And Ghanaians by now have seen those who are rather bent on breaking the country with violence. Ghana will not burn just because the former President wants to enjoy another term, and we will ensure that, at the end of it all, we will proudly wear our badges of courage and honour for defending and preserving the integrity of this country.

Long live Ghana!
Long live NPP!!
Long live President Akufo-Addo!!!
