With several important African markets having already launched 5G FWA services, including South Africa, Angola, Nigeria, Kenya, Zambia, and Zimbabwe, fixed wireless access is emerging as a significant technology for servicing the continent’s growing broadband demands. According to the report, this change is due to its affordability, ease of deployment, and built-in flexibility.

According to Hossam Kandeel, vice president and head of Ericsson Middle East and Africa’s global customer unit MTN and customer unit MTN Africa, “Sub-Saharan Africa is expected to continue to lead the continent in total mobile data traffic growth over the forecast period,” according to the most recent Ericsson Mobility Report. The spread of 4G network coverage throughout the continent and the rising cost of data and smartphones will be the main drivers of this rise.”

According to Ericsson’s analysis, there will be a more than 330% growth in global 5G subscriptions from 1.6 billion to 5.3 billion in the six years between the end of 2023 and 2029. By the end of 2023, over 45% of the world’s population is expected to have access to 5G coverage, and by the end of 2029, 85% of people will.
