According to the Ericsson Mobility Report from November 2023, 85% of people on the planet will have access to 5G by 2029, with Africa setting the pace. Sub-Saharan Africa’s mobile subscriber growth can be attributed to favorable economic conditions, progressive regulatory actions aimed at expanding network coverage, and the growing indispensability of connectivity for voice and data communications, as well as the facilitation of banking services.

According to the analysis, by 2029, 4G subscriptions will make up 49% of all subscribers, but 2G subscriptions will continue to hold a sizable portion of all subscriptions at 27%, mostly because of the region’s predominately rural population.
