Spirit produces the wings for the Airbus A220 at a sizable facility in Northern Ireland.

With more than 3,000 workers, it is one of the biggest and most significant manufacturing companies in Northern Ireland.

Boeing, Airbus’s competitor, announced earlier this month that it had started negotiations to acquire Spirit.

Nonetheless, it is improbable that Boeing would desire to retain the segments of the company that cater to Airbus.

“In light of the situation today where Boeing has potentially the interest to take over Spirit, we could also imagine that some of the work packages could find their way to Airbus and we take them over,” stated Thomas Toepfer.

“But that, quite frankly, is a discussion that’s in the very, very early stages,” he said.
