The Three Lions have been knocked out of World Cup 2018 after a heartbreaking loss in Russia.
They could not have got off to a better start, with Kieran Trippier curling a brilliant free kick into the top corner after just five minutes.
Gareth Southgate’s men continued to look good through the first half, but Harry Kane and Jesse Lingard both spurned chances to increase the lead.
In the second half, Croatia came back into the game and equalised when Sime Vrsaljko whipped in a brilliant cross and Ivan Perisic got his foot above Kyle Walker’s head to beat Jordan Pickford.
England had some shaky moments defensively, with Perisic hitting the post, but held on to reach extra time.
Both teams had their chances in the additional 30 minutes, but it was Mario Mandzukic who buried the winner with 109 minutes on the clock.
The Juventus striker pounced after Ivan Perisic had headed the ball towards the six yard box, and sent Pickford the wrong way with a composed finish.
Southgate threw on Jamie Vardy for the last eight minutes but it was too little, too late.
The Three Lions will remain in Russia for three more days though, as they face Belgium in the third-place play-off in St Petersburg on Saturday.
