In 2021, he suffered his most recent setback when he went down during a cup match for the Austrian team BW Linz.

The match versus Hartberg was canceled as a result of him being taken to the hospital immediately following the event.

Dwamena was a talented striker who had a very successful season in the Austrian top division in 2016–17, but his heart problem frequently hindered his progress.

A 2017 transfer to Brighton and Hove Albion of the Premier League was thwarted when he failed a medical examination following the discovery of a cardiac ailment.

After having surgery to address the issue, he was cleared to play in January 2020, but since then, he has been using a defibrillator while playing.

Because of his recurrent cardiac condition, there were calls for Dwamena to give up football, but the striker frequently stated he was eager to play as long as he was in good health.
