The presiding judge, His Lordship Solomon Oppong-Twumasi, stated in the court document that is currently circulating online that the convicted preacher apologised for her acts through her attorneys.

The judge said that Agradaa’s attorneys told the court that their client was so terrified before the hearing that she was unable to sleep at night and was even scared to go to the final sentencing.

Through her solicitors, the appellant expressed such regret that she was reportedly unable to sleep for days and was terrified to attend the sentence session.

According to a portion of the ruling, “Her attorneys then knelt down to implore the court to spare the appellant a custodial sentence, arguing that as a mother of small children, such a sentence would affect not only the appellant but also her innocent children.”

In his decision, His Lordship Oppong-Twumasi further pointed out that, despite three other people alleging that the appellant had cheated them, only two people were the victims of the crime for which Agradaa was found guilty and originally given a 15-year sentence.

He claimed that GH¢4,000 was the total sum involved, but only two of the accused victims came forward to help the Republic with the case’s prosecution.

The judge added that Nana Agradaa was mandated to reimburse the victims of her crime GH¢1,000.

The statement also stated that the original 15-year sentence was too severe and that the Circuit Court did not take into account the 32 days that Agradaa was detained pending judgement.

Context

On July 3, 2025, an Accra Circuit Court found Agradaa guilty of defrauding by false pretences and charlatanic advertising, and she is currently serving her sentence at the Nsawam Female Prison.

She was charged with soliciting different amounts of money from churchgoers after claiming to have the ability to double money.

Her actions on Today’s TV and several social media platforms, where she promoted the plan and urged people to attend an all-night church service with the promise of doubling their money through spiritual intervention, served as the basis for the prosecution’s case.

Large amounts of cash were reportedly paid over by the more than 1,000 attendees of the service. However, many people were left in financial trouble because the promise was not kept.

On December 4, 2025, Agradaa and her solicitors made their initial appearance before the Amasaman High Court after filing an appeal.

Through her attorneys, Agradaa contended that the 15-year sentence was harsh, the trial was unfair, and the facts did not support the decision.

In a historic ruling on Thursday, February 5, 2026, the Amasaman High Court lowered her initial 15-year prison sentence to 12 months.

According to the order, unless more legal action is taken, Nana Agradaa would be sentenced to one year in prison under the amended judgement.
