Suame benefits from Sompahemaa Foundation’s free health screening

 

A non-profit organisation, Sompahemaa Foundation, has organised a free medical screening for the residents of Suame in the Ashanti Region.

Mrs Irene Kyei Mensah-Bonsu, who is the founder of the NGO engaged a team of medical staff and other volunteers from Accra and Kumasi to undertake the exercise.


The event which was held at the Kronom Methodist Church on Saturday, November 21, drew thousands of residents from other adjoining communities in the constituency.

The common conditions diagnosed were diabetes, hepatitis, prostate cancer, breast screening, anaemia, dental and eye problems, among others.

Timely intervention

The many beneficiaries, who had their health conditions checked could not hide their emotion as most of them said they could not afford the services.

“This afternoon we have been medically screened free of charge. I didn’t pay a dime”, one of the beneficiaries said as she thanked and praised the NGO for showing them love and care.

“This intervention is timely. I had my child screened as well”, another said urging the team to continue with the good work.

NGO’s commitment

In an interview with dailymailgh.com at the event, Mrs Mensah-Bonsu said the event forms part of activities they were undertaking towards making life meaningful for people, special children, orphans and the other less privileged individuals in society.

“We wish to express our utmost gratitude to everyone who in various ways helped us to make this and other events we have organised a success and impacted in society”, the wife of MP for the area Osei Kyei Mensah-Bonsu said.

The Suame legislator, who was also at the event commended the NGO for the initiative and urged his constituents to seek routine medical check-ups in the wake of the deadly COVID-19 pandemic.

A citation was presented in honour of the lawmaker who has been described as by his constituents as a “visionary leader.”
