JUST IN: Collins Dauda charged with abetment of assault

Former Minister for Lands and Natural Resources Alhaji Collins Dauda has been charged with abetment of crime according to General Secretary of National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr Johnson Asiedu Nketia.

He disclosed on Accra-based Okay Fm that he accompanied the Member of Parliament for Asutifi South on Tuesday to the Police Headquarters where they stayed for more than three hours before he was charged and later granted bail.

According to him, the manner in which armed policemen he believes are members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) vigilante group, Delta Forces stormed the Accra and Ahafo homes of the former Minister, leaves much to be desired.

“Even hardened armed robbers cannot be treated in such a manner. This is an honorable lawmaker and you dispatch party vigilante members disguised as policemen to go and arrest him in such a Rambo Style. That is the style you adopt to arrest people who do not stay home and others”, he revealed on the show.

“Since when have we started allowing masked policemen in the country to be arresting people in that fashion? If there was violence why did the Divisional Police Commander not effect an arrest when the incident happened right before him”, he asked.

The Inspector General of Police, David Asante Apeatu on Monday dawn ordered for the arrest of Member of Parliament (MP) for Asutifi South Constituency, Collins Dauda.

The order was given on Monday night while Mr Dauda was on his way to Accra. Armed police picked Mr Dauda at 2am this dawn.

The General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr Johnson Asiedu confirmed the arrest but wondered why they will give such an order when perpetrators of heinous crimes in the area are walking free.

“Armed policemen stormed there at 2 am dawn to arrest him. He called the Regional Police Commander who also informed him that the IGP gave the order but he also indicated that Speaker of Parliament has recalled the house and he was on his way to attend parliamentary proceedings”, he disclosed.
