Konongo Municipal Police Command was given a tough time as a crowd of people including mechanics trooped in the Police station demanding for the release of two of their members.
These two were arrested on Wednesday evening after they protested and pent-up their anger on the GPRTU of TUC, Konongo branch as monitored by Virgin City Radio.
It is alleged that the Task Force of the Transport Union in Konongo in their operational vehicle chased a Kumasi-Accra sprinter bus for picking up a passenger at an unapproved joint,just behind the Konongo Main Lorry terminal.The sprinter bus in the process,in order to avoid his arrest,had a head-on collision with an on-coming KIA truck at Heaven school junction,Akrante3 Besa,a suburb of Konongo in Asante Akim Central.
The Municipal Assembly led by Mad Susan Akomeah in their attempt to find solution to this long-lasting problem,called for an emergency Municipal Security Council meeting today.
Unfortunately,the meeting was abruptly called to an end as the Municipal Police station was stormed by the mechanics,burning of tyres,chanting war songs amongst others,all in demand for the release of their colleagues.The Police had no option than to kow-tow to their poohoo.
Meanwhile, several properties of the Konongo branch of the GPRTU have been vandalized by this crowd of mechanics. The whole Asante Akim Central is in a state of shock and sorrow as they await actions that will be taken by the Municipal authorities.
