– Nana Agyemang has said that a botched operation the late Christopher Opoku had at KATH in 2013 plunged his life into jeopardy – Agyemang said in an interview that the botched operation left Opoku with severe complications – He said Opoku would not have died if he had arrived in London on time for a corrective surgery.
Nana Agyemang, a journalist and former coach of Sekondi Eleven Wise, has thrown light on the circumstances surrounding the death of Christopher Opoku.
The popular journalist and football commentator had been doing well in last year and had been very active on Facebook, so his death came as a shock to many Ghanaians. In an interview with Ahotor 93.2 FM, Nana Agyemang, who was close to Opoku, said that his friend would not have died if a surgery carried out on him for “rectal cancer” at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in 2013 had been handled competently. Agyemang said the operation went bad, leaving Opoku with several complications, including a punctured bladder. “Miscalculations in the operations plunged his life (Opoku’s) life into jeopardy,” he was quoted as saying. Christopher Opoku has juicy details Agyemang added that Opoku’s health deteriorated as a result of the botched KATH operation, compelling him to head to London for treatment. He said by the time Opoku got to London, he had become so weak that he collapsed and went into coma at the airport and was rushed to the hospital. He said Opoku suffered in the last 10 days of his life, undergoing four different operations to try and contain the complications from the botched KATH surgery, but he could not make it. Agyemang stressed that Opoku’s would have been saved if he had arrived in London earlier. The late journalist is survived by a wife and three children.
