NABCo recruits to demonstrate on May 31 over non-payment of allowances

Some recruits on the Nation Builders’ Corps (NABCo) program have served notice of embarking on a demonstration on Friday, May 31, 2019.

The demonstration is to impress upon the government to pay all allowances due them that are in arrears.

The group of recruits, known as the Coalition of NABCo Trainees in a release said they are being treated unfairly and are unhappy about the way the NABCo Secretariate manages their concerns and issues regarding their service.

“The decision to embark on a demonstration is driven by resentments trainees have harboured since we subscribed unto this initiative… Management inefficiencies, lack of fairness, acceptable standard of recognition to the technocrats, enthusiasm and vitality in addressing trainees’ concerns,” is among the issues that form basis for the demonstration.

The statement, which indicated that the demonstration will start from the Obra Spot in Accra said organizers will not hold back the action until their demands are fully met.

The trainees said about seven months’ allowances owed them must be fully paid.

“Pay all Trainees with arrears from November 2018 to February 2019 in addition to March 2019 and April 2019 stipends to put them at par with the regular colleagues.”

The trainees are also demanding that the payment of their allowances is regularized as the irregular payment has left many of them highly indebted.

“Pay both March and April stipends. And regularize the subsequent months. We acknowledge the just batch payment of March stipend which has instantly absorbed into servicing Trainees indebtedness to MTN Quickloan, Fido Loan, and other creditors, upon 3 month vigorous work without pay. We, therefore, demand immediate addition of April stipends to cushion them, payment of May on time and subsequent regularization.”

“In fact, we will emphatically state that if our demands are not met prior and after the demonstration and these irregularities continue to prevail, demonstration will be the order of the Day and the Youths revolution will advise themselves accordingly,” the recruits threatened.
