2020 Election: NPP training thugs at Asutsuary Military camp – Victor Smith

Former Ghana’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, Victor Smith has alleged the ruling New Patriotic Party(NPP) is currently taking some party thugs through a three-week weapon training in preparation for the upcoming 2020 general election.

He told host Akwasi Nsiah on Ghana Kasa on Kasapa FM that the thugs being trained at Asutuare Military Training base in the Eastern Region will be crushed if they make any funny move during the election.

“The NPP is training soldiers at Asutuare, we know where they are training some people also here in Accra. The NPP should continue to train and use them and we’ll see what will happen in Ghana…they give them three weeks of weapon training. if they[NPP] want the good of Ghana they should not use these people they are training.

The former Eastern Regional Minister further warned the NPP not to try to rig the 2020 elections as they did in 2016, else there would be total chaos in the country.

According to him, what Ghanaians need is a free and fair election that will produce a legitimate President to rule this country.

“I believe that they didn’t win the 2016 election fairly but they should not try to repeat that again. They should win fairly let the people give you their mandate. If they don’t do that the people of this country will be so angry and this government will run. They shouldn’t steal it they should let the peoples’ preference be made at the election. They shouldn’t try to interfere with the register and don’t try any tricks to make sure they get power. If they try to steal this upcoming election there’ll be mayhem. Let us have a free and fair election then if we lose we accept the outcome.”

Nana Akufo-Addo, who was Ghana’s main opposition leader in the 2016 elections, won the Presidential election, defeating President John Mahama, by 53.8 percent to 44.4 percent.
