Eddie Nketiah, an English striker of Ghanaian ancestry, stated that he accepted England’s call-up in order to secure the ‘normal progression’ of his career.
Nketiah, who has represented England throughout his junior career—captaining the U-21s—has been given his first call-up to the senior team for the upcoming matches against Scotland and Ukraine.
The Lewisham-born man, who has been on Ghana’s radar, said he could not refuse the invitation and that it is a good time to move forward during a news conference.
“I had aspirations of playing here, and as I mentioned, once the call-up came and the opportunity was made, it was incredibly difficult to refuse, and I feel that it is the next logical step for me at this point. I decided that now was the right time to take that move, and I’m clearly really glad to be here. Hopefully, I can help this squad this week and earn some caps in the process.
Eddie Nketiah has been on Ghana’s radar for a long and is rumored to have discussed changing his nationality with the Ghana Football Association.
