As was to be predicted, the Minority Caucus in Parliament chastised President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo during his February 27 State of the Nation Address (SONA) for 2024. In the second incident, the Minority began singing a well-known song about road safety at the conclusion of the speech, which was about a reckless driver who had crashed his automobile and killed people. They sang at the top of their lungs, "Driver banza wor kum nkrofuor mba," even as Speaker Alban Bagbin attempted to bring the room back to order so that the meeting could begin. In light of Vice President Bawumia's suggestion that Akufo-Addo was leading the race as president, the driver analogy has gained more relevance recently. The minority and other opposition members have sharply criticized his allusion to being the driver's mate, accusing Bawumia of attempting to avoid accountability, particularly with regard to managing the economy in his capacity as the leader of the Economic Management Team.
