The administration envisions flying taxis operating in two years.

According to the company’s CEO, Andrea Wu, “there has not been enough investment in infrastructure” in the UK thus far, despite the fact that transportation hubs should be located in urban areas.

Given the necessity to construct landing and takeoff zones, she refers to the 2028 deadline as “ambitious” for the widespread adoption of flying taxis.

Regarding Monday’s news, Ms. Wu states, “But the entire industry agrees you have to put something down on paper in order to push this forward.”

Since the demonstration two years ago, no additional mini-airports have been constructed or tested. However, the government’s plan states that this year will see the opening of the first vertiport, or airport, for vertical vehicles.

The Civil Aviation Authority, the UK’s aerospace authority, is accepting suggestions for vertiports at currently operating aerodromes.

In order to achieve the government’s goal of introducing autonomous air taxis by 2030, a new rule would most likely need to be enacted.
