Tension in Volta NPP

Aggrieved youth in Kpando, North Tongu, Biakoye, South Tongu and South Dayi Districts of the Volta Region are boiling with anger following the recent rejections of endorsement of their District Chief Executives (DCEs), Today has established.

The youth, Today discovered, hooted and threw sachet water at the Assembly members as a sign of their dissatisfaction for President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s DCE nominees.

And the chaos, Today gathered, was part of mixed reaction that greeted the rejections and confirmations of the District Chief Executives at separate ceremonies held in the four districts on Wednesday, May 9, 2017.

In North Tongu District, Today was told that the aggrieved youth threw sachet water at the Assembly members for rejecting the 2016 parliamentary candidate of the NPP for the area, Mr. Richard Collins Arku, who the President nominated as the DCE.

It had to take the intervention of the police to quell the disturbances at Battor-Aveyime office of the assembly where the youth, some clad in the NPP T-shirts, protested.

Meanwhile, the youth have served notice that they will make the area ungovernable for President Akufo-Addo if the assembly members do not confirm the nomination of Mr. Arku as MCE for the area.
Speaking in an interview with Today last week Friday during a visit to Battor to ascertain the facts of the matter, some supporters of the NPP in the area accused the North Tongu Constituency Chairman of the party, Mr. Saviour Kudzo Nyadudzo, of using intimidating tactics to get Mr. Arku out of the position.

They pointed out that Mr. Nyadidzi’s conduct was out of order, alleging that he has the support of some top elements in the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to sabotage Mr. Arku.

They charged the leadership of the NPP to take responsibility for their actions which, they said, had brought “fear and serious division among members and supporters of the party in the area.

Meanwhile Mr. Nyadudzi has since denied the allegation, and called on Ghanaians to disregard it.

Also the NPP supporters in the Biakoye District have threatened to defect from the party if President Akufo-Addo fails to re-nominate Madam Millicent Kabuki Carboo as the DCE.
