Kennedy Agyapong, the Member of Parliament for Assin Central, was cordially welcomed back by the minority side of the legislature after losing the most recent New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential primary to Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia. The Minority MPs enthusiastically chanted "presidoo," a slang term for "president," as Agyapong entered the room. When he walked to his seat, everybody cheered and applauded him. In the party's presidential primary on November 4, 2023, Kennedy Agyapong received 71,191 votes, or 37.41% of the total votes cast, to finish in second place. In the meantime, Dr. Bawumia received 118,210 votes, or 61.43% of the total. The other candidates, Francis Addai-Nimoh and Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, the former minister of agriculture, received 781 votes (0.41%) and 1,459 votes (0.76%), respectively. Notwithstanding his failure, Agyapong's standing with NPP members has only grown.
