Yesterday, Prof. Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng inaugurated the Adansi North Community Mining Programme with a call on the District Mining Committee to eschew partisan politics in the distribution of concessions.
So far, about 5000 youth have been registered under the Community Mining Programme in the Adansi North District of the Ashanti Region. Out of this, 2000 have been licenced and issued identification cards while the rest are going through the process.
”Through the Community Mining Programme “galamsey” has been reduced to the minimum. By and large I will say that the programme has been successful. Thousands of youth are now working” he said.
According to him, the IMCIM is engaged in ”getting the people to work, then we can deal with those who have money and are destroying our forest and farmlands,” he stressed.
