COP George Akuffo Dampare, the Inspector General of Police (IGP), is not effectively running the police force, according to George Alex Mensah, the Director of Operations for the Ghana Police Service.
The fact that things are not going well under the present IGP is a well-kept secret among the senior brass of the police department.
IGP Mensah’s leadership, according to COP Mensah, has caused a fall in morale among many police officers. He was speaking to a parliamentary select committee looking into a leaked audio of the IGP.
“Dampare is not doing a good job of administering the Police Service, and most police officers are not satisfied. On August 31, COP Mensah informed the committee, “You may call the police officers beneath, and they will tell you.
Even though he omitted to say which party he supports, COP Mensah acknowledged that he is a politician and that he works for a political party.
His remarks are similar to those made on a leaked recording in which he is heard telling Bugri Naabu that the IGP must be fired in order for the NPP to win the elections in 2024.
