President John Dramani Mahama has reduced the number of ministries in the public sector from 30 to 23 in an effort to revamp the sector.

Some ministries have been completely eliminated, while others have been merged with related bodies to ensure that their functions are still carried out effectively, ultimately helping the government fulfill its mandate.

This decision is in line with President John Mahama’s commitment to reduce the number of ministries once elected as president.

Here are the seven ministries that have been scrapped or merged:

Ministry of Information: This ministry no longer exists, as its functions have been transferred to the Ministry of Communication, Digital Technology, and Innovations.

Ministry of Water and Sanitation: This ministry has been dissolved and integrated into the Ministry of Works, Housing, and Water Resources.

Ministry of Railways: This ministry has been completely abolished.

Ministry of Works and Housing: This ministry is no longer independent, as it has been merged with Water Resources to form the Ministry of Works, Housing, and Water Resources.

Ministry of National Security: The Mahama government has deemed this ministry irrelevant and decided to abolish it.

Ministry of Youth and Sports: This ministry has been split into two separate entities; the Ministry of Sports and Recreation, and the Ministry of Youth Development and Empowerment.

Ministry of Chieftaincy: This ministry was considered insignificant and will now fall under the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy, and Religious Affairs.
