Klopp spoke to his Man City rival on the phone after Liverpool beat Spurs to win the 2019 Champions League
Jurgen Klopp has revealed the message he gave to Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola shortly after guiding Liverpool to a sixth European Cup.
Klopp’s side won the Champions League on a dramatic evening in Madrid on Saturday by beating Tottenham Hotspur 2-0 .
It was a first trophy for the German as Reds boss and came just weeks after Liverpool were pipped to the Premier League title by City despite finishing with a club record 97 points.
And as he addressed the media after ending the Reds’ seven-year wait for silverware, Klopp said: “A second ago I spoke to Pep Guardiola on the phone. Our head physio (Lee Nobes) worked for Manchester City at the start of the year but he wanted to win the Champions League… no, it’s a joke!!
“We promised each other that we will kick each other’s butts again next season. We will go for everything and see what we get.
“Getting 97 points in the Premier League and winning the Champions League is an unbelievable long way to go and we did it. That’s incredible.
“Now we’ve won something, we will carry on. We will win things. That is big. I am really happy.”
