If I appear before privileges committee, I will call for Mama Lydia and cross-examine her on whether she is really a widow-James Agalga

The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament for the Builsa North Constituency in the Upper East Region, James Agalga has said if he is summoned to appear before the privileges committee of parliament for displaying the ‘Bloody Widow’ placard, he will not appear there alone.

According to him, if he is summoned before the privileges committee, he will apply for the Hon. Lydia Seyram Alhassan, the newly sworn-in Member of Parliament for the Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency to also appear there to afford him the opportunity to ask her if indeed she is a widow.

Speaking on Accra based pro-NDC radio station Radio Gold, the Ranking Member of the Interior and Defense Committee of Parliament who was one of those caught on camera displaying the infamous ‘Bloody Widow’ placard said by virtue of the fact that the family of the MP’s late husband officially recognizes Josephine Naana Baiden as his legitimate widow, Mama Lydia as the Ayawaso West Wuogon MP is popularly known cannot call herself a widow.

He said ‘’I am willing to appear before the Privileges Committee, but if I do, I will apply for Madam Lydia Seyram Alhassan to also appear there, so I can cross-examine her as to whether she is actually a widow’’.

The Minority in Parliament have been condemned by various groups in the country for staging a walk-out during the investiture of Mama Lydia and while at it, they brandished placards that read ‘Bloody Widow’ in reference to the violence that took place during the Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election on January 31, 2019.
The Speaker of Parliament ruled that the Minority should apologise for their behavior, but they have vehemently declined to so, stating emphatically that they will never apologise.
