The CEO of the Ghana Tourism Authority, Gideon Aryeequaye has been issued a directive by President Akufo-Addo to step down from his post.
In a letter signed by the secretary to the president Nana Asante Bediatuo, dated January 24, the Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture designate, Catherine Afeku has been directed to take over the position with immediate effect.
“Pursuant to section 14(1) of the Presidential (Transition) Act, 2012 (Act 845) and Paragraph 6 of the schedule thereto, you ceased to hold office as Chief Executive of the Ghana Tourism Authority, upon the assumption of the office o the President of the Republic.”
“You are directed to hand over your office to the President’s Representative at the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Hon. Catherine Afeku, and proceed to collect any terminal benefits or facilities due you under relevant law,” the letter in part, read.
He was further tasked to handover, and cease his duties as the CEO of the Authority, no later than 5pm on January 26.
Gideon Aryeequaye was appointed by former president Rawlings in October 2016, and had barely settled in his new position.
His dismissal joins the list of other heads of state agencies that have been sacked since the new government took over, including Dr Stephen Opuni of COCOBOD, as well as the head of the lands commissions.
