On September 12, 2020, Prof. Benneh was found dead in a pool of blood in the hallway that led to his bedroom. Ropes shackled his hands and legs, and there was a rag half-inserted in his mouth. Upon closer inspection, his face bore several marks of abuse.

The postmortem results on September 21, 2021, which showed asphyxiation, strangling, and possible homicide as the cause of death, were used by the prosecutors to present their case.

Ebenezer Kwayisi’s sentencing represents a critical step forward in the search for justice for the late Prof. Emmanuel Benneh. But there are still unanswered concerns about the murder’s circumstances and the potential involvement of additional suspects, which casts doubt on the case.
