Bank staff kills suspected armed robber in Kumasi

The bravado exhibited by one Mr Attakura Aaron Joseph, head of Micro Finance, Atwima Mponua Rural Bank, Abuakwa branch has led to the death of a suspected armed robber who on Tuesday dawn broke into his house to rob him.

The masked criminals numbering three, were reported to have gone to house number plot 32, Block C, New Sensu Toase belonging to Mr Attakura, scaled the fence wall and entered the house, using a pinch bar to open the first metal gate.

They entered the corridor and opened the glass door and were about to open the guard frame with a cement block when the barking of a dog in the house compelled them to give two shots apparently to kill it.

This woke up the occupants of the house. Mr Attakura who saw the three armed men on his verandah, mastered courage, aimed at one of them and shot at them with his single barrel gun hitting him in the chest, killing him instantly.

The other two on realizing their target was fully armed putting their lives in danger took to their heels and escaped.

Police were immediately invited to the scene and after inspecting the body, found gunshot wounds in the chest.

The deceased who is fair in complexion and in his early 30s was wearing black trousers, black jacket, black T-shirt, white singlet, black belt and blue canvas with his green face mask, cup, machete and shot gun lying beside him.

A search in a camouflage pouch tied around his waist revealed 12 live cartridges. A mobile phone was also found in his pocket. The body was conveyed and deposited at Frimpong Boateng Medical Center Morgue for preservation pending autopsy.

Meanwhile, police indicate that efforts are underway to get the identity of the deceased and trace his family as well accomplices.
