NPP Burnt
The Adansi Fomena District fire service has commenced investigations into the matter
Yesterday MyNewsGh.com published a story about how angry New Patriotic Party (NPP) executives and footsoldiers in Fomena vandalized the party office, attacked the party chairman, and Member of Parliament (MP) for area.
News reaching us this afternoon indicate that the irate party executives and footsoldiers returned to the office today to set the place ablaze.
They tore down the curtains in the office and broke furniture pieces and plastic chairs to set the place on fire. Others wielded clubs and stones which were used to break the flour tiles of the office and the louvre blades.
The angry mob was comprised largely of New Patriotic Party executives at the polling station and constituency level and some members of the party in the Fomena Constituency in the Ashanti Region.
The attacks began yesterday when the constituency chairman, Akwasi Nti and Member of Parliament for Fomena, Andrew Amoako Asiamah were assaulted and their cars vandalized, as MyNewsGh.com reported.
The mob moved to the party office where they only scattered furniture and stationery. They, however, returned today with petrol and matches to burn down the party office.
There has been a division between the party members and top executives of NPP Fomena constituency, including the MP which is affecting the unity of the party, an eyewitness told MyNewsGh.com.
The MP, Andrew Amoako Asiamah and the Chairman Akwasi Nti were attacked after a meeting held by NPP Ashanti Regional executives representatives as part of efforts to resolve the disunity and internal wranglings. It, however, turned violent, now culminating in the burning of the office.
Ashanti Regional NPP Women Organizer Nana Ama Ampomah and some regional executives of the party including the member of Parliament for Subin were there to represent the regional executives of the party to ensure peace in the constituency.
MyNewsGh.com’s Ashanti Regional correspondent reported that the meeting turned bloody after angry party members stormed the premises and started vandalizing party office and destroyed the MP’s V8 and Chairman Kwasi Nti’s vehicle.
The MP and the Chairman were injured after the attack from the party members and some executives.
MyNewsGh.com learnt the injured MP is still hospitalized and recuperating from the beatings he received.
Our checks as at 13:00 GMT today indicate no arrests have been made so far.
Meanwhile, Theophilus Appiah, Fire Service Commander in Adansi Fomena District said the fire started around 2:30am today indicating that his outfit has commenced investigations into the matter.
