A Ugandan church’s congregation set the new record for the longest continuous applause after clapping for more than three hours, according to Guinness World Records.
When the record was set, Phaneroo Ministries Church was having its eighth celebration.
The congregation’s clapping continued for a total of three hours and sixteen minutes, maintaining an average sound level of 88.5 dB, according to a statement from Guinness World Records. They had to stay above 80 dB the entire time for the endeavor to be successful.
The Phaneroo Ministries church hosted the “Clap For Jesus” event at a hall in Kampala, the capital of Uganda, on July 30 to commemorate its ninth birthday.
According to Grace Lubega, the pastor of the church, the goal of the festival was to bring people together in thankfulness and celebration.
The 926 participants were told to clap continuously, and the stewards ejected anyone who stopped along the way.
Both the national basketball governing body and Uganda’s standards section sent observers to watch the event being live-streamed.
The ensemble broke the previous record, which had been set by Clark Stevens and The Festival of Awesomeness in the UK in 2019, which was two hours and five minutes.
In July, Tembu Ebere, a Nigerian, lost his sight while attempting to cry for 100 hours to break the Guinness World Record.
