The former flagbearer aspirant in the New Patriotic Party(NPP) at the 2014 primaries, who doubles as the former Member of Parliament(MP) for Asante-Mampong, Hon. Francis Addai Nimoh has renewed his call to all Ghanaians especially the supporters and sympathizers of NPP to continue to support Nana Akufo-Addo to succeed in his agenda for the development of Ghana.
According to him, majority of Ghanaians entrusted their power to NPP and Nana Akufo-Addo in 2016 general elections based on certain expectations and the need for all Ghanaians especially NPP rank and file of NPP to contribute their quota for the government to meet greater expectations of the people in order to win their trust again in the forthcoming 2020 polls cannot be overemphasized.
He has therefore entreated the rank and file of the party to resolve any difference they may have among themselves and other government appointees for general development of the nation and for incumbent President to succeed.
Speaking to The New Trust Newspaper after the Presidential Primaries of the largest opposition Party, that saw the overwhelming endorsement of former President John Mahama,Hon.Addai Nimoh said, there is the need for NPP to be focus in order not to allow anything to detract them.He said the NDC may attempt to set the agenda to detract the NPP and the government but “our focus should be to deliver on mandate for bringing the needed development for Ghanaian populace.
As for who leads NPP in 2020 as Presidential candidate, I have said already and wants to reiterate that, as a party, NPP has a convention and that convention is such that, former President John Agyekum Kufour was given opportunity to lead the party as a presidential candidate in 2004 to enable him complete his second term without a contest and I strongly believe that, same should be done to Nana Akufo-Addo”.
The highly respected for NPP Flagbearer aspirant who pulled a big surprised with his votes margin among some candidates who had contest thrice and twice was quick to add that, ”My ambition to become to lead NPP and become President of the Republic of Ghana is till intake because that dream has not change but there is time for everything. As a politician, you need to listen to the people which are normally called the voice of God!
On the numerous calls from the various parts of Asante Mampong to offer himself back as Member of Parliament(MP),Hon.Addai Nimoh who left an indelible mark in both Parliament and his constituency during his tenure of MP ,admitted that, he has being receiving numerous calls from the people but the Party has its own laws and guidelines for the conduct of Parliamentary primaries and since the Party has not come out with timetable to open nominations, he don’t wants to disclose his decision either to accept the numerous calls on him or not. But when we get to the bridge we shall cross it”, he added.
He maintained his position that, MPs are agent of development because to become representative of any of the 275 constituencies is a great honour and MPs must use such representation opportunity to lobby for development into their constituencies not necessary constructing the projects themselves.
Hon.Francis Addai-Nimoh said any MP who refuses to attend social functions especially funerals, community durbars among others because of the little donations they would make is unpardonable.
He has therefore called on the electorates particularly; the various political parties’ delegates not to sit down unconcern but show keen interest and access all prospective candidates who want to lead them as MPs. According to him, some of the qualities they should consider are someone who has leadership qualities, someone who can show direction to his or her followers, someone who is inspirational or a role model to the constituent, development oriented person among other qualities.
He said there are always the need for the delegates particularly those in the strongholds of the major political parties to do proper consultation with the non-delegates before the election of parliamentary candidates in order to elect well-accepted person else after the elections, they would regret voting that person to be their representative.
