Follow up observations, and the postmortem of the just ended referendum in the proposed additional six (6) new regions of the country amidst high recorded cases of electoral malpractices should be a worry and test case for the NDC as the party prepares for the by- elections in the Ayawaso west wuogon constituency, as well as the national polls in 2020.
This is because it is unheard off for a party who prides itself as the beacon of credible Democratic tenets to soil its unpopular image to such defeatist posture, where some eligible voters who partake in the voting process’s in the six new regions were captured on live camera and video exhibiting serious electoral fraud and thievery to the advantage of those in favor (YES) of the creation of the regions , back by provisions of the 1992 constitution, and not by the brainchild of Nana Addo and his government, as his praise singers and surrogates want the good people of Ghana to believe.
Knowing their clandestine agenda and the kind of vile machinations that they rolled in motion , event leading to the commencement of the polls were not shocking after all. The police on the day who were supposed to protect lives and provides security and safety for indigene and visitors, were equally against anybody who defies to avoid voting YES in the referendum. Clearly this became evident when the Volta regional police command, a region also seeking to bring forth additional OTI enclave, issued a caveat on the day , to the effect that, journalists should stay away from covering the polls , and that any member of the press who defies the order does so at his/ her own peril.
Really shocking, isn’t it ?
This tacit caution statement appeared to miscounted that the entire process wasn’t going to achieve any productive end outputs.
To put it mildly and openly , that’s to say that the process was not going to be free and fair, as the electoral commission’s boss Madam Jean Adukwei Memsah, told the good people of this country, prior to the polls.
Similarly, the brazen rigging, and disregard of the guidelines of the elections across the proposed new six regions were not adhered to, and how ever, raising serious ethical and confidential concerns, where some people were seen thumb printing about 15 – 20 ballots in support of YES for new regions.
Observer missions and groups who were deploy to oversee the conduct of the elections have register and protested vehemently about the raw and daylight robbery by appendages and supporters of Akufo – Jean Mensah led EC’s incompetence it showed on the day for not being able to manage such a simple and tireless electoral process as in what we witnessed few days ago.
Notwithstanding, the agitations by well meaning Ghanaians, and the neutrals who showed up in most of these voting centres across the 4 – 6 regions where the elections were being held have all come out that the process felled flat amidst neglect of the electoral laws by voters as enshrined in the EC’s own status, of the republic.
Not all the “chief clearing agent” President Nana Addo has once again come out boldly defying concerns by some civil society group’s verdict about the dent and credibility of the elections, and had cleared and applauded the EC and its administrative staffs for doing a yeoman’s job on the day ; and that Madam Jean , and her team have passed the first test of showing their gravitas in the execution of their mandate to organized a free and fair polls come 2020. Very laughable, I guess !
So I asked, has the NDC taken any queue from these raging issues and matters arising from the referendum?
Auxiliary, If the party decides to remain adamant to the course of heeding to wise counselling, then am afraid we should forget about future elections.
The government has proved through this process that they will ignore everything materially possible under due process, and rig any election it encounters with the NDC.
Meanwhile, once President Nana Addo has okayed Jean Mensah’s managing of the referendum, means that the road is now clear for open thievery, which will gasp for air but it may never find, till innocent blood flow in the country.
The open display of daylight robbery, is a recipe for 2020 antics, which is being rehearsed to win the polls without malice, or any fear of contradictions of whatsoever.
Equally speaking, the NDC is a mother of brute and brute force in matters like this, and I prey is the leadership that is about time , we deploy any conventional tactics in motion to neutralize the dreadful activities and operations which possibly could be use by Akufo Addo – Bawumia – Jean Mensah ; to disfranchise many supporters of the NDC in its strongholds. Especially, the Volta region, and now the newly created OTI enclave.
My humble appeal to functionaries of the NDC is for them to sit up, and activate their winning and strategic manual across the 275- to about 300 ( possibly yet be created) constituencies in the country, even before 2020 dawns.
In fact elections 2020 is not a joke, and is a game not for the weak but for the strong and vintage mindset; I entreat members of the NDC to come out from their sleep and slumber to help make this dream a reality by campaigning vigorously to win the 2020 general elections.
