Two opposing resource persons on NEAT FM’s morning nearly lost control while discussing the Speaker of Parliament’s call to have homosexuality banned and declared illegal.
A law lecturer, Moses Foh-Amoaning threw heavy criticisms at the Amnesty International boss, Mr George Aggrey, on his view to allow homosexuals to live and engage freely.According to a Peace FM report, Mr Foh-Amoaning accused the Amnesty boss of being a homosexual as well, hence his defense of the lifestyle which to him (Amoaning) was distasteful.”You are a grown up person, were you taught by your parents to have sex through your anus? Are you gay? Do you have sex through your anus? Why are you lying to Ghanaians that homosexuality is good?” Foh-Amaning asked.
Earlier this week, the speaker of parliament, Prof. Mike Oquaye while addressing a delegation from the Royal House Chapel, called for an amendment of Ghana’s law to ban homosexuality and declare it illegal.
Prof. Oquaye described the lifestyle as despicable and unacceptable as it was against the country’s culture, and urged the members of the church group to insist that parliament move with the amendment.
“It is unfortunate that people have become so liberal that they will want to liberalise Christianity…even priests are approving of homosexuality and allowing a man and a man [to] marry, a woman and a woman [to] marry and these are manifest abominations,” Prof. Oquaye said.Reacting to the statements of the speaker, Amnesty International Ghana called for resistance against any such action to make homosexuality illegal, stating that it was within any individual, above the age of eighteen’s right to choose what lifestyle to engage in.”Everyone has their freedom and rights and must not be shattered by any law. Our position is that it is a right for every individual to practice what they want. If the person thinks homosexuality is good, allow the person to practice it. That is their right,” George Aggrey said.
However, Mr Foh-Amoaning refuted these statements, adding that the Amnesty International boss is lying to Ghanaians, and that homosexuality is wrong. He further stated, “There are laws in Ghana and homosexuality is not accepted in our culture. Inasmuch as we have our rights, we don’t have the right to do everything. Can I have sex with my mother because I have my right? Mr Aggrey, you are a disgrace to your own family.”Got a story to share?
