Why Akufo-Addo still lives in his father's house – Gabby

The flagbearer of the All People’s Congress (APC), Hassan Ayariga, had on Monday fired the accusation at Akufo-Addo.
“I built my first house at the age of 22. … At age 72, my senior and my father, Nana Akufo-Addo, is still living in his father’s house. At this age 72, I would have retired from politics and been advising young men of this country to move this country forward and not contest with them anymore,” Mr Ayariga said.
His remark drew condemnation from Mr Otchere-Darko who took to Facebook to describe Akufo-Addo as a modest man who was not interested in material possessions.
He said as a successful lawyer, Akufo-Addo could build 30 houses if he wanted to, but had opted to improve what his father left him and also dedicate his efforts to improving the welfare of other people.
“He is not greedy. He does not possess even a credit card and does not have a foreign account,” he said.
Mr Otchere-Darko pointed out that apart from his father’s house, Akufo-Addo also owned two other houses – one built by his mother in Kyebi in the Eastern Region and another he built himself in East Legon, Accra.
“Ghana is blessed to have in 2017 a president who is not driven by material things for himself but for all citizens of his nation. He is honest, he is selfless, and he is not corrupt. He is just a simple man, with a big heart and a big mind,” he said
