Three (3) passengers have died while eight(8) others have sustained severe injuries in a fatal accident at Nobewam, near Konongo on the Accra – Kumasi Highway.
The accident happened at 3:00am, at Nobewam when a Mercedes Sprinter bus with registration number AC 910 – 19 run into a parked Mercedes Benz Cargo truck with registration number AS 5818 – P and a Ford Flex Sel Saloon car with registration number CR 171 – 20 also hit the back of the Sprinter bus.
According to the driver of the Sprinter bus, Yaw Opoku, on his way from Accra to Kumasi, at Nobewam three (3) lane, overtook a long vehicle which was also heading towards the same direction.
Few meters afterwards, he lost his balance and crushed the back of the Cargo truck. The Ford Flex Sel saloon car which was behind the Sprinter hit the back of it, since it was also at a top speed.
According to DSP Stephen Yeboah, Konongo Divisional MTTD Commander, the Cargo truck had developed fault and was parked in the outer lane of the road, with advance warning triangle signs placed in front and back of it.
Three (3) passengers died on the spot, while eight (8) others sustained injuries.They were all on board the Sprinter bus. The driver of the Ford Flex Sel Saloon car also sustained inury. The casualties were rushed to Konongo-Odumasi Government Hospital for treatment.
The accident vehicle have been towed from the road.
