Five armed robbers who were engaged in robberies, conspiracies, aiding and abetting crimes, and dishonest receiving in the Ashanti Region have been found guilty by the Ghana Police Service.
This was made public on Friday, August 30, 2024, by the Police Service.
Along with two other suspects, Richard Dogbatsey and William Ansah, the convicted individuals Jeffrey Dwomoh, Clifford Opoku, Kwabena Kyei Barfour, Prince Opuni, and Henry Kusi Marfo were apprehended in 2023 in connection with several robberies and carjacking occurrences.
Clifford Opoku and Jeffrey Dwomoh were convicted guilty of both robbery and conspiracy to commit robbery. Both received sentences of 120 years in prison and forced labor.
Kwabena Kyei Barfour was given a 105-year sentence after it was found that she had dishonestly accepted stolen goods.
The driver involved in the collision, Prince Opuni, was found guilty of careless and reckless driving.
If he didn’t pay the 350 penalty units fee, he would have to spend a 10-month hard labor prison sentence. In addition, he was mandated to pay GH¢5,000 in fines for damaging a police car.
In addition to a punishment of 1,050 penalty units, Henry Kusi Marfo, who provided ammunition to enable the robberies, also faced a 15-month prison sentence with hard labor. Marfo paid the fine to the court after that.
Nonetheless, due to a lack of proof, the court cleared Richard Dogbatsey and William Ansah of all counts pertaining to aiding and abetting robbery.
