Black Stars midfielder, Sulley Muntari’s dad passes – Alhaji Sulley kicked the bucket on Monday Father of Sulley Muntari, Alhaji Muniru Sulley, has passed on after failing to recover from a long-term illness. Alhaji Sulley was the head of the Hausa community in the Dofa, and was also the father of Muniru Sulley – the younger brother of Sulley Muntari. Sources close confirmed that Alhaji Sulley passed away on Monday.
The deceased was not a popular figure in the media, but will be most remembered for his intervention during a spat between his elder son [Sulley Muntari] and certain officials of the Ghana Football Association (GFA).
Alhaji Sulley famously revealed that he warned his son about being quick-tempered, and went ahead to apologise on Sulley Muntari’s behalf after the midfielder assaulted an Executive Committee member during the 2014 World Cup.
He had been battling with illness for sometime now, however, it is still unclear what resulted in his death. The news comes at a very trying time for the Muntari family – with Sulley Muntari currently without a club, while Muniru was also released by his club Steaua Bucharest.
