On Wednesday, November 12, 2025, a stampede broke out at El Wak Stadium, killing six people.

As part of its massive recruitment efforts to increase the number of members of the service in 2025, the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) planned a screening exercise.

At the venue, thousands of young Ghanaians gathered, but a tragic chain of events resulted in the deaths of six people—all women—and numerous injuries of various severity.

Sad scenes at Matilda Midorse’s house

A 24-year-old woman named Matilda Midorse was named as one of the stampede’s victims after the events of November 12.

A video posted to UTV Ghana’s Instagram page showed the deceased’s family members in an inconsolable state.

While some of them sat in chairs with the tragedy’s weight etched on their faces, many of them were seen rolling around in grief in the video. Her father, unable to control his emotions, was also depicted sobbing bitterly.

As they struggled to deal with the loss of such a young person, cries of anguish filled the house.

 

Matilda Midorse’s friends grieve

Many videos of the Midorse’s friends lamenting her death were discovered on TikTok after the tragedy, according to YEN.com.gh.

Akufo-Addo laments the tragedy at El Wak Stadium that claimed the lives of six recruits.

A close friend named Efya Icey posted pictures of the victim along with a note lamenting her passing.

“We lost our beloved because of this recruitment issue. Until we cross paths again, rest in peace, sis,” she said.

AMG Bengee, a TikToker, also addressed the tragedy and criticised the Ghanaian Armed Forces for selling forms for months while only holding a single screening day.
