Hassan Avorgah, a 24-year-old Ghanaian, was captured for impersonating a police officer and detaining a civilian. As a result, he ended up in the custody of actual police officers.
Avorgah’s act was abruptly put to an end on March 17, 2024, when the Nima District Police Command arrested him due to his suspicious behavior.
The Ghana Police Service released a statement on Monday, March 18. “The Ghana Police Service, through the vigilance of some of its officers yesterday, March 17, 2024, arrested suspect Hassan Avorgah for personation and possession of police uniforms without lawful authority,” the statement read.
Avorgah is accused of impersonating a public official, lying to them, and having police gear on him without the proper authorization. Under the pretense of being a police officer, reports state that Avorgah decided to make an arrest and escorted the victim to the Holy Garden Police Station.
But when he failed to give precise information regarding his purported position as a law enforcement official, suspicions were aroused, and he was taken into custody.
When Avorgah was apprehended, he was wearing a police camouflage outfit and had several police accoutrements on him, such as two cell phones, a pouch, a taser, and a set of handcuffs.
