The Asante Akim Central Municipal Assembly has donated five hundred and eighty (580) dual and mono desks to the Municipal Education Directorate for distribution to basic schools in the area.
The furniture, funded with the assembly’s share of the Common Fund is aimed at easing congestion and facilitate effective teaching and learning in basic schools as pupils return to school to resume academic work after a long break caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Hon.Susan Akomeah,the Municipal Chief Executive for the Assembly, presenting the furniture said, the donation has become necessary due to the numerous calls by community members and educational authorities during her regular familiarization tour of communities under her jurisdiction.
She said, the provision of the desks would ensure pupils learn in a conducive environment and also compliments the desire of government to ensure quality education to all children of school going age.
Hon. Akomeah tasked heads of schools to exhibit good maintenance culture and ensure the furniture is used for its intended purpose.
She advised pupils to take their studies seriously and be disciplined as schools begin academic work.
“I will plead with teachers to continue to exercise patience and exhibit love and care in handling the pupils as they are returning from a very long break”, she emphasized.
She again hinted on the need to adhere to all the safety protocols regarding COVID-19 pandemic in order to minimize the spread of the virus.
Representing the municipal director of education, Mrs Patricia Sarpong at the ceremony were, Messrs Joseph Anim Onyina and Francis Owusu, the Deputy Director (Human Resource) and the Deputy Director (Planning and Statistics) respectively.
Receiving the items, Mr. Onyina commended the assembly for its constant support to the educational needs of the pupils.
He noted that, the donation was timely and pledged his outfit’s readiness to take proper care of the furniture.
Among the personnel present at the short event were Hon.Samuel Ohemeng, Presiding Member for the Assembly, Mr. Owusu Ansah,Coordinating Director, some Assemblymen and other workers of the education directorate.
