Deputy Director of the National Service Scheme (NSS), Henry Nana Boakye, claims the Ghana Police Service have been renting guns from the military for operations.
According to him, the Police have been forced to do so due, largely, to the lack of weapons for use by the them.
“I hear the Police are now renting guns from the military; they now go to the military for guns for use because of the lack of guns and this is very worrying…,” he claimed.
The Police Service has come under scrutiny in recent times following the increasing crimes in the country.
Up to 89 armed robbery cases have reportedly occurred in Ghana since the beginning of the year.
And the lack of logistics for use by personnel of the Ghana Police Service is said to be part of the causes of the increasing robbery cases.
The aspiring Youth Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) speaking on Peace FM’s Kokrokoo programme on Friday said the increasing crime rate is worrying and hence called on the hierarchy of the Police Service to be up and doing.
