Ace Highlife singer, George Jarah has waded into the controversy surrounding who the originator of the popular Azonto music genre is.
According to him, his former Manager and the Chief Executive Officer for Slip Music Records, Mark Okraku Mantey is the originator of the world acclaimed genre.
The controversy over the originator of Azonto has dominated the Ghanaian media and beyond since it became trendy both home and abroad.
Several persons from Ghana and Nigeria including Hiplife giant, Sarkodie have made claims to the one time popular genre and dance craze as originators.
But speaking on Work and Happiness on Adom FM, George Jarah disputed the claims and said that the Azonto rhythm emanated from his hit track ‘Ashikele’ which was produced by Mark Okraku Mantey.
He continued that the rhythm was created by Okraku Mantey but he (George Jarah) only sang the words and made it popular.
He made this revelation when stating his views about the current trend of music on the Ghanaian market.
The writer of the popular road safety song ‘Driver Banza’, revealed that every generation produces its own style and stars and commended the current crop of musicians for carrying the mantle from where they left it.
‘We came to meet the likes of Nana Kwame Ampadu and Obourba J A Adofo in the system and Rex Omar and I also came with a new style which also made great impact in the industry. Music evolves every ten years and so shall it be. It’s their time, let them enjoy it’ he pointed out.
He described Okraku Mantey as one of the best Managers he has ever worked with and added he is willing to work with him again whenever Mark is ready for him.
