NDC PRIMARIES: AFRAM PLAINS SOUTH AND AKWATIA MP’S GO UNOPPOSED BUT AYENSUANO MP IN TROUBLE.
The vetting committee of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC ) in Eastern region on Wednesday August 16,2023 vetted aspirants in four outstanding constituencies whose parliamentary Primaries were put on hold over petitions.
The four constituency were -Afram Plains South, Akwatia, Ayensuano and Lower West Akyem.
At the end of the vetting process which prolonged to Wednesday evening ,Members of Parliament for Afram Plains South and Akwatia constituencies -Joseph Appiah Boateng and Henry Boakye Yiadom respectively were declared to contest unopposed in the parliamentary primaries.
In the case of Afram Plains South ,all three aspirants – Asirifi Yaw Paul (Lawyer) ,Maxwell Asare Ampadu and Grace Adiepena (midwife) who contested the MP Joseph Appiah Boateng were disqualified on grounds of not being card bearing members of the NDC for four years. Specific in the case of Grace Adiepena,she was caught for forging his membership card which did not correspond with the name in the register.
Incumbent MP for Akwatia, Henry Boakye Yiadom did not have contest in the primaries hence cleared to go unopposed.
However,the Member of Parliament for Ayensuano, Teddy Nana Yaw Addy is in trouble as all efforts and lobby made to go unopposed failed.
His sole contender Eric Owusu Damptey, a businessman and Lawyer has been cleared to contest the Primaries but pressure continue to mount on Eric Owusu Damptey from some top members of the NDC to step down.
However, he has resolved not to rescind his decision to enable him save the seat for the NDC in 2024 parliamentary elections.
For Lower West Akyem constituency,all three candidates Owen Kwame Frimpong, Michael Adusei and Majid Nuhu were qualified to contest despite failed attempt made by Michael Adusei to injunct Kwame Frimpong over allegation of business fraud.
However, the bailiff was blocked and redirected to search for his house and serve him accordingly.
Jamal Konneh , Eastern regional secretary of the NDC said all disqualified aspirants may contest the decision at appeals committee for determination before the Primaries slated on August 25,2023.
