The 79-year-old president of Uganda, Yoweri Museveni, has elevated his son, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, to the position of chief of staff.

Mr. Museveni, who has been in office since 1986, has refuted rumors that he is preparing his only son to succeed him.
Following his threats to invade neighboring Kenya on Twitter, where he went by the handle X, his father fired him in 2022 from his position as head of the army’s land troops.
In addition, President Museveni apologized to the president of Kenya and begged for “forgiveness” on behalf of his son.
The offensive tweet, however, was never taken down by Gen. Kainerugaba, who was elevated to the rank of general and kept his position as his father’s advisor.
In a contentious follow-up post, he declared he would send troops to Moscow to support President Vladimir Putin in defending Russia against Ukraine.
